A pact with the devil to gain fame and fortune. Music as the vehicle for demonic forces. Horror novelists have had great fun exploiting the link between certain genres of music and the occult.
Accusations of rock as a conduit for the devil plagued the genre from the beginning, similar to accusations against the blues and jazz in previous eras. When some bands started adopting occult imagery outright (such as Coven, Black Sabbath, and Blue Öyster Cult), the link became overt, whether or not it was seriously intended. The link may be a cliché and the plot devices may be tropes, but some talented writers have turned these into compelling stories. I want to share five of my favorites.
